The administrative center of the district is the city of Shemonaikha.

History of the district
Shemonaikha district is one of the oldest settlements in Altai.

The district was formed on January 17, 1928 from Shemonaevskaya, parts of the Kalinin, and Ubinskaya volosts of the Semipalatinsk district and part of the Krasnooktyabrskaya volost of the Ust-Kamenogorsk district with the center in the village of Shemonaikha.

Shemonaikha district has reserves of:
